Meet John

John Marez was elected to represent Precinct 3 on the Nueces County Commissioner’s Court in November 2016. 

His precinct includes the cities of Robstown, and portions of Corpus Christi including the areas of Clarkwood, the Corpus Christi International Airport, Del Mar College, including Annapolis Christian Academy, St. Patrick's, IWA, Ray & King High Schools, Baker, Hamlin, Martin & Cullen Middle Schools, Calk-Wilson, Hicks, Berlanga, Woodlawn Elementary schools, and part of Lamar Park, Ocean Drive and the Pharaoh Valley subdivisions and the Corpus Christi Country Club area.

John earned an Achievement Honoree Award from the National Alumni Association of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi in 2016. He was also recognized with a Distinguished Service Award in 2013 from Texas A&M University-Kingsville Social Work Program, the Del Mar College “Wall of Honor” in 2012, the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce 2006 “CC 40 Under 40” Award, a Distinguished Citizen Award from LULAC Council #1 and the Corpus Christi Area Disabled Coalition “Fish Out of Water” Award in 2005.  

John graduated in 2000 with Bachelor’s in Political Science and in 2002 received his Master of Public Administration from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. John also graduated from Del Mar College and Ray High School both of which are in Precinct 3. 

After graduation, John served five years as an investigators and caseworker in Robstown and Corpus Christi with the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services. In 2016, John ended his career with DFPS after serving as a supervisor finishing out fifteen years with the State of Texas. 

John’s dedication of serving others doesn’t begin with his current position. In 2005, John was elected to the Corpus Christi City Council and served until 2012. John then was elected to the CCISD School Board receiving the highest votes of any candidate for an At-Large position. While with CCISD, John served as Vice President for all four years and was Chair of the Insurance and Legislative committees. Prior to being elected to any office, John served on several community boards and the Wesley Community Centers.

John and his wife Gina, a dental hygienist, have a daughter and son.
